San Pablo Farmacia, a Mexico-based pharmacy retail chain, created an intuitive and engaging training experience that employees can consume at their convenience. The company delivered certified training to 1,800 employees without the need to transport its people to a training location and take them away from their pharmacy stores.听

For those unfamiliar, imagine a global assembly where more than 1,500 entrepreneurs from 82 countries dedicated to societal and environmental missions come together. These enterprises prioritize people and the planet, reinvesting their profits to advance their respective causes. Witnessing the energy and innovation in Amsterdam was a powerful reminder of why 疯拍传媒 has emphasized social entrepreneurship for the second consecutive year.

It makes me proud to think about the 676 疯拍传媒 colleagues who, in 2023, participated in our pro bono consulting programs, offering their expertise to these visionary social entrepreneurs. As in previous years, this collaboration has proven mutually beneficial, with 74% of our employees reporting a positive, lasting impact on their careers. Furthermore, 96% of the supported organizations and 77% of their beneficiaries have seen significant improvements. These numbers speak volumes about the shared value of our engagement.

But the 2023 SEWF wasn’t just a personal highlight; it marked the beginning of another significant milestone. We announced our investment in the Social Enterprise People and Planet First Verification with Good Market and SEWF. This initiative aims to set a global standard for recognizing organizations prioritizing social and environmental impacts. Social enterprises can now also identify themselves on 疯拍传媒 Business Network, the world’s largest B2B commerce platform. This breakthrough can make it easier for these businesses to explore new business-to-business opportunities while also helping 疯拍传媒 customers achieve their goals of being more environmentally and socially responsible. Saying it鈥檚 a win-win situation is a bit clich茅, but in this case it鈥檚 actually true.

疯拍传媒 is powering equitable access to economic opportunity, education and employment, and the circular economy

Working with SEWF shows how much we believe in working together and driving towards collective impact. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we can’t do this by ourselves. Working with others is the key to driving the kind of systemic change our world needs. This idea is a big part of what we stand for at 疯拍传媒, and is at the heart of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.

This idea of working together really comes to life in our collaboration with UNICEF and Generation Unlimited. In 2023 鈥 the fourth year of our partnership 鈥 we set out to make a real difference by not just developing the skills of young people but also finding jobs in the 疯拍传媒 ecosystem. Launching the 疯拍传媒 Educate to Employ program is a big step in that direction. Helping 25 young people get jobs with 疯拍传媒 in each of our pilot countries 鈥 Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and the Philippines 鈥 might not sound like a lot, but it’s a huge deal for each of those young people. For them, it’s a gateway to a sustainable livelihood, offering them not just gainful employment but a chance to build a career, achieve financial stability, and make meaningful contributions to their communities and the broader world. It’s about unlocking their potential and enabling them to participate in the digital and green economy. By the end of the year, we saw amazing results. While more than 2,500 had already passed the aptitude test, over 1,000 young people in Africa finished our “Boost Your Career with 疯拍传媒 Skills” course and more than 500 got through the first big part of their training.

But, what’s a year recap without some high-level numbers? Let’s dive into some impressive numbers from 2023. More than 20,000 of our 疯拍传媒 colleagues volunteered over 140,000 hours. Our initiatives reached over 2.8 million young people 鈥 almost half girls 鈥 and supported over 41,000 teachers. Our partner network reached 1 billion people in over 140 countries. These stats are just the tip of the iceberg, showing our big reach and impact together with our partners.

Building on this, our signature partnerships with Africa Code Week, Meet and Code, and Latin Code Week have always been at the heart of our achievements. As we handed over these initiatives in 2023, we took a moment to reflect and evaluate Africa Code Week and Latin Code Week outcomes more deeply. For instance, by empowering 14.6 million participants with the education, knowledge, and ICT skills needed to participate in the digital future, Africa Code Week has increased the likelihood that beneficiaries will realize higher earnings during their working lives. Common Good Marketplace estimates that Africa Code Week catalyzed up to US$1 billion in social value for program participants between 2015 and 2022 based on future increased income.

As we close the chapter on 2023 and look ahead, the journey we’ve embarked upon at 疯拍传媒 CSR is a testament to the power of collective action and shared vision. The stories, numbers, and outcomes shared in our eBook reflect our commitment to making a meaningful difference.

Learning Services: What Our Customers Really Need /2024/02/learning-services-what-customers-need/ Wed, 14 Feb 2024 14:15:00 +0000 /?p=222569 The digital transformation that comes with the introduction of new software solutions has a big impact on the way we learn. This has prompted the Learning Services team at 疯拍传媒 to review the future viability of our services with our customers. What you have told us was enlightening.

What has been most interesting to hear is that 95% of customers we spoke to create their own customized, in-house content. They are recognizing the importance of creating more microlearnings in the form of video tutorials and in-application help. Seventy-nine percent of our customers create online content that learners can self-serve at when they need it. As one customer shared, 鈥淲e are looking for the sweet spot of not overwhelming users with content, to provide the right content at time of need.鈥

This helps to fully realize the established trend towards learning in the flow of work.

Here are some common pitfalls we have heard from our customers and some tips to consider on how to avoid them:

Not clearly documenting your learning and enablement strategy

While there is a clear focus on creating learning content, the holistic view of the learning ecosystem is not necessarily given the attention it deserves. You wouldn鈥檛 build a house without a solid foundation underneath it.

Consider your enablement strategy to be the foundation for your enablement journey. Clearly document every learning and enablement activity you need to undertake, with detailed timelines, milestones, and roles and responsibilities through the project lifecycle and beyond into business as usual. The enablement strategy should be a document that is communicated widely to all stakeholders in your organization. Your learning approach should be clearly understood by all early in the project.

Diving straight into content creation without a learning needs analysis

Learn more about the impact of learning and enablement on user adoption

All too often, the focus is on creating content as quickly as possible, without the due diligence of carrying out a thorough learning needs analysis beforehand. Consider what happens if you do the 鈥渂ig shop鈥 at the supermarket without a shopping list. You buy things that you don鈥檛 necessarily need and you forget some important things you do need. How much more efficient can that shop be with a clear, itemized list?

If you don鈥檛 base your content creation plan on a learning needs analysis, you risk wasting energy on content that never gets consumed or you miss content that users need, which in turn decreases adoption.听Planning and preparation are key. Take the time to conduct a thorough learning needs analysis.

Focusing on content creation pre-go-live, but having no clear plan on keeping that content current

In a fast-paced project environment, the onus is on getting the learning content created to beat the go-live clock. But what happens then? You鈥檝e finished the big shop and now need to fill up your car鈥檚 tank. You鈥檝e been so focused on driving your car to the destination that you don鈥檛 notice that you have run out of gas. The subject-matter experts and key users you so heavily relied on during the content creation phase go back to their day job or move on. Only 42% of the customers we interviewed have a key user network. Quickly, the content is out-of-date and no one is referencing it anymore. Who is tracking whether it is being consumed? Who is measuring learning effectiveness? Only 17% of our customers create knowledge checks. The content you worked so hard on is quickly dead, forgotten.

Don鈥檛 underestimate the key user network for delivering training and keeping enablement content up-to-date beyond go-live. A key user network is invaluable in a digital learning enterprise. Nurture and invest in that network where you can. Plus, all too often, there is no clear hand-off from the project to business as usual. Plans for this should be in place early, back at the enablement strategy stage. As the old saying goes, 鈥渇ailing to prepare is preparing to fail.鈥

Takeaways

If you really want to drive adoption, clearly document your enablement strategy, understand the learning needs of your people, and provide the right learning at the right time. To work efficiently, learning content must be continually kept up-to-date, especially in a dynamic cloud world where agility, innovation, and flexibility are key. Have a plan, at the outset, on how you want to get the most out of your learning content and ensure key stakeholders understand the value of tracking content usage and keeping it current.

Equipping the Next Generation of Underrepresented Talent for a Career in Tech /2024/02/equipping-next-generation-underrepresented-talent-tech/ Tue, 06 Feb 2024 13:15:00 +0000 /?p=222351 鈥淚 just never saw myself in tech.鈥

This is what I heard during my discussion with the first cohort of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 , a program that helps equip underrepresented and underserved groups for a career in the tech industry through participation in a free 疯拍传媒 Certification course.

How could it be that in a time when companies need to find talent quickly to fill the need for technically skilled roles 鈥 a need that is becoming more urgent by the day 鈥 there is an entire population of determined, driven people who feel as though they do not belong in the tech industry?

The Current State of Diversity in Technology

The numbers speak volumes: only . Only 3% of those jobs are held by Black women and 1% are held by Latina women. For me, it has always been impossible to ignore the lack of representation in the tech industry. I am acutely aware of when I am the only woman in the room 鈥 let alone the only Black woman.

But this is changing. Companies have begun implementing diversity-forward hiring practices to try to minimize barriers for populations that have historically been overlooked. The percentage of rose from 56% in 2016 to 88% in 2021. Though there is now targeted backlash, numerous employers remain committed to their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) goals for the workforce.

These initiatives have proven to be important to younger generations. In a few years, millennials and Gen Z will make up the majority of our workforce 鈥 and they want to work for companies that align with their values. A 2022 survey from the found that 76% of recent graduates indicated that diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts were 鈥渧ery important鈥 or 鈥渆xtremely important鈥 when considering their future employers.

Helping Underserved Groups Break into Tech

If we want diverse workforces, we must support and create targeted channels to source diverse talent. It is imperative that these groups 鈥 including women, people of color, veterans, and others 鈥 are given the resources to excel in high tech. I have seen firsthand how our digital skills initiative is making an impact on individuals and their communities, working to ensure that talent from all backgrounds can participate in this exciting era of technological innovation. Without diverse perspectives, we leave out too many pieces of the puzzle to see the big picture. This deficit is particularly obvious in technology, given its influence on everything from how we shop to how we govern. The State of Computer Science in the U.S. /2023/12/the-state-of-computer-science-in-the-us/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 12:15:00 +0000 /?p=220851 Disparity in education is not a new conversation in the U.S., but the pandemic highlighted and exacerbated the issue to a new level. Computer science was one of the hardest hit subjects.

According to a report on the , 24% of teachers in 听high-poverty schools reported suspending computer science instruction due to COVID-19, with only 14% of teachers in low-poverty schools doing the same.

This, of course, is just one example of what happened to our educational system during the pandemic, but it is particularly problematic when we look at the importance of tech literacy in the workforce of tomorrow.

CSTA鈥檚 work centers around building capacity in K-12 educators to provide relevant computer science curricula with the overarching goal to reduce barriers, support teachers, and advance computer science education across the U.S.

To learn more about the state of computer science education in today鈥檚 classrooms and where it is headed in the future, we sat down with CSTA Director of Education Shaina Glass.

Glass鈥 relationship with computer science has evolved over her 19 years in education. While teaching at a STEAM magnet school, she became curious about the topic, which was simply referred to as 鈥渃oding鈥 back then. This started an impressive journey of making her way from a CSTA chapter member and leader to CSTA Equity Fellow to her leadership role today.

Q: How would you define the state of computer science education today?

A: In a word, evolving. Back when I became a CSTA member in 2019, it was hard to identify exactly what to teach or how computer science intersected with career education. These conditions have changed drastically. The U.S. is unique: we don’t look at education outcomes nationally, every state evaluates individually. If you want to see how states rank you can look at the that is released every year.

Another changing aspect of computer science education is diversity within the teacher pool. When I started 19听years ago, there were few teachers that looked like me. Despite some progress in diversifying computer science teachers, classrooms are still far more diverse than the teacher pool.

Primarily, we are falling short in preparing teachers to feel confident teaching the subject. There are new policies going in place to make sure all students learn computer science, yet we don鈥檛 have anyone to teach it. We鈥檙e putting the cart before the horse. 

Why is computer science such an important topic? 

Everything we use in our life is a program. Nearly every job you can fathom today includes some layer of computing. Schools are focused on just needing one computer science teacher when, really, we need all teachers to understand and incorporate it across all content areas and curriculum. This is controversial, but it should touch our social studies and English classes as well as math and science.

One area we struggle with in student standards is the impact of computing. The question is: How do we help the teachers who teach other areas see how computer science impacts their subject?

We must make sure that students know that computer science is not one standalone class and there are no limitations on how they can use it. Students walk around every day with it in their pockets, which makes computer science one of the most vital areas for teaching today. 

What are some of the barriers to getting computer science into the classroom? 

The biggest component in my mind right now is teacher preparation — and not just preparing current teachers, but also preparing those who want to become teachers. We must be proactive and build skills for the outcomes we want to see later.听In the听world of computing, we are constantly investing in the potential of new ideas. Why aren’t we doing that with people?

Preparing the teachers who prepare the next generation should be at the forefront of what we are doing for the future of computer science education.听

As technology continues to evolve, what does the future of computer science education look like? 

There is a place for artificial intelligence (AI), but more so for teachers to understand it from the creator lens versus the user lens. The story of computer science so far has been more about helping students to become the producer versus the consumer. We need to prioritize students鈥 ability to utilize this technology safely, ethically, and effectively.听

Right now, people are full of excitement about the power of AI, but we don’t have enough听infrastructure built around how we should appropriately utilize AI in classrooms. Some are rushing to keep up with this demand for using AI, but we don’t have structures in place for protecting听or educating students on how AI can impact them, or how it already is.听Can we steer away from kids just using AI to them understanding what it is, how it impacts them, and how they want to see AI utilized?

As part of the future of computer science education, we should be creating spaces where students can evaluate the field as much as use it. Let them be the creators and innovators of the next ideas — especially those whose voices have been historically missing in these conversations. Learning to listen and collaborate is critical in the field and can be done in any classroom, making every classroom a computer science classroom. Setting that foundation will change how education moves forward.

One initiative helping move the needle of computer science education is (CSEdWeek). This is a collaboration between CSTA and many partners. To serve these requirements, 疯拍传媒 has provided customers and partners with separate learning and assessment courses on our support offerings, enabling them with support tools and resources that help maximize their support experience. While our customers could benefit from Product Support Accreditation in the past, our partners had access to an equally in-demand enablement course, “Support and Success Essentials for 疯拍传媒 Cloud Solutions.” 

Both versions have had great success and it was time to consolidate the best parts of these two accreditations into one impactful learning offering. As of December 5, 2023, we have merged these two options into , making it 疯拍传媒鈥檚 baseline support enablement for all consultants. 

What is this new offering in a nutshell? Support Accreditation is a course and assessment that enables customers and partners to make the best use of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 support offerings and tools. This accreditation is available for all customers and partners of 疯拍传媒 鈥 at no additional cost.

To learn more about the latest developments on the topic, I sat down with Stefan Steinle, executive vice president and head of Customer Support & Innovation, 疯拍传媒 SE. 

Q: Can you give a brief description of Support Accreditation? 

A: This training was developed to showcase all the available support services and tools provided by 疯拍传媒. We cannot assume that our customers and partners have the bandwidth to research what鈥檚 available 鈥 and this does not just apply to support, it applies to all our offerings at 疯拍传媒. We have proactively curated all the tools and related resources that can assist our customers and partners in resolving their issues effectively and efficiently. The four-module course is packed with focus topics, one-page snapshots, how-to videos, and interactive quizzes. As with any course, all eligible participants receive a digital Support Accreditation badge.听听

What about the actual content of the training?听What areas are covered?听

The course introduces you to channels like Expert Chat, Schedule an Expert, Schedule a Manager, and Ask an Expert Peer, which can enable customers and partners to have direct contact with support. For example, with Schedule an Expert, a customer can have a 30-minute session with an expert to help resolve a specific issue related to a support request. This is valuable information that consultants need.听

Participants can benefit from similar how-to’s and guides on self-service, case prevention, live support channels, and supplementary material. We have a unit on , our application lifecycle management solution that is included in cloud subscriptions. This is a fantastic module that guides users on how they can benefit from an out-of-the-box, cloud-native solution designed as the central entry point to manage customers’ 疯拍传媒 landscape with content-driven, guided implementation and highly automated operations. 

To manage expectations, could you also elaborate on what is not covered by this accreditation? 

Expert course content is not covered in this accreditation. For example, we have further deep dives for 疯拍传媒 Cloud ALM that are, understandably, not covered in this first-level accreditation.  

Also, this is a learning offering around support topics so enablement on solution knowledge is not in scope. 

What鈥檚 in it for customers? What is the benefit of the course?

Not every customer is fully aware of the complete suite of support tools. With the Support Accreditation course, they can learn to easily engage with our support teams and to achieve smoother case resolutions. We provide easy-to-use, easy-to-consume self-enablement to any customer or partner at no additional cost. It is a must for all those who interact with the support channels of 疯拍传媒.听听

What about partners? 

This training is especially important for partners as most implementation projects are run or supported by them. They also manage most ongoing operations on behalf of the customer.听

More broadly, how do you use AI in support enablement? 

We use large language models (LLMs) to refine and expand the scope of our existing AI-driven solutions. Based on the learnings from Enhance AI and Assist Support, we utilize LLMs to help generate automated responses to specific how-to questions. This allows us to leverage 疯拍传媒 Knowledge Base Articles, 疯拍传媒 Notes, and documentation contributions from our experts.

At first, Peter Bostelmann, chief mindfulness officer at 疯拍传媒, thought he had misheard when Siemens, a long-standing 疯拍传媒 customer, asked whether he could provide mindfulness courses for its employees back in 2016. 鈥淚 felt a slight cognitive dissonance,鈥 Bostelmann recalls. 鈥淵ou want us to teach you mindfulness? And then I realized that, back then, we had already built up over five years of expertise establishing mindfulness practices in a global organization.鈥

It wasn鈥檛 long before the appeal of the Search Inside Yourself (SIY) program, launched at 疯拍传媒 in 2013, spread beyond the company鈥檚 boundaries and customers started to see 疯拍传媒 in a new light: as a pioneer of corporate mindfulness. The enterprise resource planning (ERP) expert was now offering training courses and consulting services to help customers introduce mindfulness practices into their own organizations. Since then, 疯拍传媒鈥檚 mindfulness trainers have held more than 100 SIY training courses for customers. One of these enterprises is SLB, a global technology company driving energy innovation, with more than 100,000 employees. Marie-Isabelle Fleuri, Corporate Health and Well-Being manager at SLB, was entirely convinced of the benefits of working with 疯拍传媒 Global Mindfulness Practice after attending an SIY course.

鈥淲ith its strong focus on leadership and neuroscience, the SIY approach rests on compelling scientific evidence,鈥 she says. 鈥淔rom experience working in technology companies for 20 years, I knew that if I wanted to bring the topic of mindfulness to SLB successfully, it had to resonate with the culture. That鈥檚 vital support, says Fleuri: 鈥淚f we had to create all the necessary content and processes ourselves, it would have been an impossible task in such a short period of time. We鈥檝e trained more than 900 people at SLB in two years and implemented mindfulness practices around the world. Beginner’s Mind

Working with mindfulness customers is a continuous learning experience for everyone involved. 疯拍传媒鈥檚 mindfulness experts are fascinated, for example, by the way Fleuri has seamlessly integrated mindfulness into the health organization and the smart way she is marketing the activities.

鈥淥n the one hand, we learn from our customers; on the other, we develop best practices and materials for them that we can then also use ourselves. Teach-the-teacher courses for customers have honed our understanding of the kind of person required to drive a company鈥檚 cultural transformation forward,鈥 says Bostelmann.

Mindfulness: The New Superpower

As Fleuri explains, the feedback course participants give is very encouraging: 鈥淭he first day, they are generally rather reserved, as they are unsure what to expect. On the second day, they鈥檙e glad they signed up. And toward the end of the second day, they don鈥檛 want to leave! It鈥檚 moving to see them engaging with each other like old friends.鈥

Ambitious Goals

Fleuri presented SLB鈥檚 mindfulness story at the Mindful Leader Summit in Washington, D.C., in November 2022, four years after she first heard Bostelmann giving a speech there on 疯拍传媒 Global Mindfulness Practice. Things really have come full circle, but her mission at SLB is by no means complete. She is currently growing the trainers pool to reach the core of the organization, especially the field. This requires trainings in more than 10 different languages as well as mobile and flexible engagement with the operations teams.

鈥淭he opportunity is to embed our mindfulness program into the company culture,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about empowering people to prioritize their health and well-being, to be at their best for themselves but also for the organization. We see this principle already anchored in our cooperation with the 疯拍传媒 team. We鈥檙e all looking for ways to improve an organization鈥檚 performance by fostering psychological safety 鈥 to encourage creativity, innovation, and sustainability. I believe that mindfulness and emotional intelligence programs will help us achieve this goal and, ultimately, humanize the organization.鈥

Mindfulness Is Making Waves

Bostelmann sees great opportunities in future customer cooperations: 鈥淐ustomers like SLB from the oil and gas industry, but also from health, consumer goods, and insurance are pioneers in their sectors that, with our help, have implemented mindfulness. Cybersecurity a Top Priority at 疯拍传媒, Early Talent Program Recognized by U.S. Government /2023/09/cybersecurity-top-priority-sap-global-early-talent-program/ Fri, 29 Sep 2023 11:15:00 +0000 /?p=212012 This October will mark the eighth annual celebration of cybersecurity month at 疯拍传媒 and the 20th annual in the U.S.

This cybersecurity month is especially noteworthy because the Biden-Harris administration recently recognized 疯拍传媒 in its newly announced . Developed with companies, academia, non-profits, and U.S. government bodies, the NCWES aims to reinforce cybersecurity as a top priority and address short- and long-term cyber workforce gaps. The cybersecurity industry is not only important to upholding national security, but to leading in a digital economy where our increasing reliance on technology will only foster a more complex cyber threat environment. 

Persistent Pipeline Problem 

Why is cybersecurity so important today?

As noted in a explaining the new strategy, the U.S. has a persistent cyber talent pipeline problem that has continued to grow 鈥 with more than 750,000 cybersecurity jobs vacant in 2023. And it鈥檚 not just the U.S. that faces such a talent gap. According to , there鈥檚 been a 350% increase in cybersecurity job vacancies globally from 2013 to 2021. In 2023, the number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs lands at a whopping 3.5 million globally. And the disparity between the workforce supply and demand is predicted to remain through at least 2025. 

It’s a crisis, confirms Nora Clark, program lead for the Global Security Early Talent program at 疯拍传媒. 鈥淭he need is there鈥ttacks are always happening though people may not realize because they鈥檙e going on in the background鈥very employee is a cybersecurity defender and can influence company security and compliance.鈥 But for young professionals, it can be nearly impossible to start a career in cybersecurity, she explains. Many positions require years of prior experience. Not many universities offer degrees in cybersecurity, and there鈥檚 a large learning curve that鈥檚 hard to overcome without support. 

That鈥檚 why Clark was charged with the task of creating a program at 疯拍传媒 to fill the need for early talents in the cyber space.听

Global Security Early Talent Program at 疯拍传媒 

Inaugurated in June 2022, the two-year offers young professionals entry into the cybersecurity space at 疯拍传媒 through rotations with company security divisions such as Global Cyber Defense and Design, Physical Security, and Risk and Compliance; team workshops; and mentorships. Candidates who successfully graduate from the program are offered placement on a permanent team at 疯拍传媒. 

Clark chose to have the program span two years because cybersecurity has many applications and the knowledge may not transfer across teams. Two six-month rotations allow candidates to gain their footing and one 11-month rotation consists of completing a project with a cyber team at 疯拍传媒. 鈥淭his is why our program is designed differently than other programs,鈥 she says. 鈥淧eople say it鈥檚 really hard to gain the knowledge and then apply it in a short amount of time. That鈥檚 why we provide the Global Security Early Talent candidates learning opportunities, mentorships, and more to support them in their cyber career journey.鈥

As a real testament to the initiative鈥檚 mounting success, candidates now have 43 different rotations to choose from. 鈥淚’ve thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to rotate across various security teams, which has allowed me to delve deep into different security topics and build out my network,鈥 Jacob Winemiller, Global Security Early Talent program participant, says. 鈥淎s an early talent in this program, I鈥檝e had the opportunity to work on interesting projects and contribute to meaningful initiatives. From day one, my experience has been nothing short of amazing.鈥

But the program is about more than just gaining the technical knowledge to survive in cybersecurity 鈥 it also focuses on developing soft skills like storytelling, presentation skills, and networking. 鈥淲hen we talk about the program, we鈥檙e not just talking about being technically skilled in cyber. We鈥檙e also looking to see if they are going to be our next leaders, the next experts in the security industry,鈥 Clark explains. Adam Santilli, Global Security Early Talent program participant, confirms: 鈥淎s trainees, we are encouraged to develop both our soft and hard skills. The opportunity to do that while being a part of three different teams has given me a unique view on security issues today. I have also formed personal and highly valued relationships throughout this process. They have helped me expand my comfort zone and develop my interpersonal skills.鈥 

Setting an Industry Standard 

When designing the program at 疯拍传媒, Clark struggled to find information about early talent cybersecurity programs at other companies to learn from. 鈥淲hen we started this program, there were seemingly no other early talent cybersecurity programs out there. This type of cybersecurity program for people coming fresh out of college is unique.鈥 Indeed, 疯拍传媒 was the only foreign entity recognized in the Biden-Harris administration鈥檚 NCWES announcement.  

Clark hopes that with the recognition from the U.S. government and more information about the Global Security Early Talent program out there, more companies will establish early talent cybersecurity initiatives and work together to combat the industry鈥檚 workforce crisis. 鈥淚n security, it only works if we communicate with each other,鈥 she says, talking about both the many security teams across 疯拍传媒 and the cyber industry at large. 鈥淲e all have the same issues and we all want to tackle the same thing. [With the program at 疯拍传媒] we want to make sure the next generation of security experts have a tight-knit community where they can reach out to each other.鈥 

Diversity is just as important as communication. It fosters fresh ideas in any industry, but in cybersecurity specifically diversity helps when addressing threats. Clark explains: 鈥淭here has to be diversity because our adversaries are also diverse and we don鈥檛 know where they鈥檙e coming from or what their background is.鈥 Likewise, the NCWES stresses the importance of empowering those currently underrepresented in the cyber workforce. 

As a large, global company, 疯拍传媒 has a responsibility to prioritize cybersecurity 鈥 for itself and its ecosystem. When you add in the workforce crisis and the need for early talents to that equation, it becomes a no-brainer. 鈥淲e鈥檙e continuing to build our program and support the cyber force,鈥 Clark says. 鈥淯ltimately, we want to see how we can also help others.鈥

Most significantly, circular design considers what becomes of the product or its component parts once it has reached the end of its usefulness.

Q: 鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧媁hen we hear about the consequences of climate change, the social implications still don鈥檛 seem to surface in conversations as much 鈥 and certainly not as an opportunity. Can you offer some insight into what鈥檚 below the surface and why there is an important opportunity we should push above the horizon?

鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧媁inther Bruhn: When discussing climate change, we mainly address carbon emissions, not the impact on humans. We have an opportunity to address human inequality alongside climate actions through an inclusive green economy. Human talent will be crucial for the transition, as a greener economy requires new, green skills 鈥 both for emerging jobs and for existing jobs that are evolving. The green and critical transition will be impossible without a suitably trained workforce. forecast that by 2030 the global human talent shortage will be more than 85 million people, or roughly the same as the entire population of Germany. And 85% of these jobs have not even been invented yet. Demand for talent is outpacing supply and will impact society and businesses. This is a challenge, but it provides us with an unprecedented possibility of job creation.

For example, making a carbon neutrality commitment requires significant changes to business operations. Companies must measure emissions, create action plans, execute change, measure performance, report results, and iterate. We need to reimagine training and reskilling for the global workforce. To understand how green skills are applied in jobs, pinpoint where gaps arise and what actions we can take to bridge them. An inclusive green transition could in the next decade but requires significant investments in reskilling.

Green skills are the building blocks of the green transition to unlock the human capital that will power it 鈥 in a just way that leaves no one behind. For example, the transition to a green economy remains the best hope for . It would create new jobs and bring more investment to Africa in the long term for the continent’s sustainable development. This is crucial for Africa with approximately 70% of the population below the age of 30 and new entrants joining the workforce every year. UNEP estimates that expanding solar and wind capacity in Senegal will create up to 30,000 additional jobs by 2035.

鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧媁e see three key players in this transition: government, employers, and individuals. What are the biggest challenges and tasks for employers in this transition?

鈥嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌嬧赌婻颈肠丑补谤诲蝉辞苍: It鈥檚 great to see the thousands of companies making carbon neutrality commitments. Most companies don鈥檛 yet have the requisite knowledge and skills to achieve their commitments though. , such as specialized data analysis focused on emissions and energy use, specialized hardware expertise focused on installing energy-monitoring modules, communicating and marketing with an understanding of how sustainability messaging is perceived in specific markets, and so on.

Three important focus areas for companies are:

  • Good job design: Jobs should be designed with the right requirements in mind. Some roles will require deep sustainability specialization, but most will simply require some sustainable competencies to ensure the whole company is rowing in the same direction. Data scientists don鈥檛 necessarily need a sustainability degree. Product sourcing specialists don鈥檛 need five years of experience in a social responsibility department to purchase less carbon-intensive products and services. Good job design can reflect these requirements to encourage upskilling, attract talent, and allow for the assessment of candidate fit.
  • Attracting talent: Attracting talent goes beyond publishing jobs. Candidates regularly review a company鈥檚 sustainability commitments when considering where to work. CHROs and talent acquisition leaders who ensure their recruiting brand brings sustainability messaging front and center will disproportionately win over these candidates. People want more than a check; they want to make a difference. But candidates are skeptical of greenwashing. So, prove it by engaging in good job design and touting sustainable commitments and achievements.
  • Developing talent: Just as companies can conduct a job design audit of skills required to achieve sustainability goals, they can also audit their people skills. Knowing the skills you require 鈥 job design 鈥 and the skills you have 鈥 people skills 鈥 elucidates the gap an organization needs to fill to accomplish its objectives. Candidly, this can be daunting without sophisticated software and machine learning capabilities required to streamline the process. But it鈥檚 worth it. Knowing your skills gap is key to delivering effective, personalized upskilling and reskilling programs. Individualized learning, goals management, and performance management drive employee engagement, retention, and achievement of sustainability objectives.

Currently, green job growth is outpacing the labor market鈥檚 ability to keep up. Organizations focused on thoughtful job design, recruiting marketing, and personalized, data-driven talent development will have the best chance of achieving their sustainability goals.

鈥嬧嬧婲ow that we have talked about the employers鈥 opportunities and duties in their own company and operations, what is the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in this?

van der Ploeg: In most companies, corporate social responsibility teams are responsible for overseeing and implementing a company’s social and environmental initiatives and, therefore, play an important role in supporting the green transition and addressing the skills gap and shortage challenge. The CSR strategy should acknowledge the interconnections of societal, environmental, and business challenges alike. So, CSR teams can set the stage for their own company and partner with others to reach joint sustainability goals. 疯拍传媒 has already successfully done this by integrating social responsibility into its sustainability framework.

A company will not only be impacted by the talent shortage in its operations but also in its partner network. It鈥檚 relevant for all stakeholders in the economy and it鈥檚 evident that the talent crunch is driven by a shortage of skills, not people. Plenty of people are willing to learn. That鈥檚 why, in their own interest, corporations should bring all of their assets to support the provision of quality education. CSR teams and their networks have the expertise to run such strategic programs. Last year, for example, , focusing on employability. This year, 疯拍传媒 and Generation Unlimited will pilot a program to support 鈥榣earning to earning鈥 pathways for underserved young people in the digital and green economy. They鈥檒l learn the hard and soft skills needed to become employable.

The consequences of climate change and other global developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, often affect the world’s poorest. Any detrimental impact on economic or ecological systems will damage the social systems and disproportionately affect generally marginalized communities. That鈥檚 why our pilot focuses on marginalized youth in Nigeria, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa 鈥 with the goal of reaching more than 500,000 young people in the first year. They will get foundational knowledge and 疯拍传媒 skills to open a pathway to a successful career in the 疯拍传媒 ecosystem, along with on-the-job experience, coaching, and mentorship to help them launch their careers. This truly will be a win for the program, as 疯拍传媒 will see skilled young people in the ecosystem helping our partners and customers in their digital transformations and on their path to achieving their sustainability goals while providing the young talents better possibilities to have a career, earn a living wage, and live a decent life.

鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧媁inther Bruhn: The transition is a unique opportunity to mature functional labor markets with sophisticated, educational, and inclusive social protection systems and a future-proof workforce. Today, many commitments to international agreements are made without reference to the implications on labor markets and skills and training needs. to link employment to action to address climate change and provide a significant driver for green job creation. To succeed, good coordination of policies and actions across government ministries and the private sector, including employers and workers, is needed to prevent and reduce skills mismatches.

I want to briefly mention one last key player, ourselves. Our actions do matter, as they collectively can lead to political change. We all need to embrace the change and the opportunities that come with the transition to a greener economy. We need to make choices on home heating systems, how cars should run, and reflect on our diet to avoid high-emission foods. We need to be proactive, take ownership of our own skill set, and embrace career flexibility. We need to internalize a mindset of lifelong learning.

To conclude, it is essential for all stakeholders, including governments, businesses, and workers, to collaborate on a new social contract and ensure we move forward together 鈥 toward a future that works for everyone.

In 2022, 75% of companies worldwide talent shortages. And the issue becomes increasingly prominent with the OECD’s that 1.1 billion jobs are liable to be radically transformed by technology in the next decade. that 43% of businesses worldwide are set to reduce their workforce due to this technology integration while other surveys point out that 80% of technology products and services will be built by those who are not technology professionals by 2024. In the end, it all comes down to this dilemma: the need for increases. But their number is notoriously limited.

For some people, this outlook is especially bitter. , women hold only 26% of computing-related jobs today. And the number for people from ethnic minorities drops even lower. Accessing digital skills and securing a fulfilling, well-paid job in the tech industry often seems out of reach for them. 鈥淲hen I was young, I didn鈥檛 really know what I was passionate about,鈥 says Karen Rodrigues from Brazil in a recent blog post on . 鈥淭he only thing I knew was that I wanted to get a job and earn money. My parents also had a specific idea of what my career should look like. So, I started my studies in business administration and accounting, got my degrees, and got my first job in this area.鈥 For women like Rodrigues, a career in tech had never been up for debate.

Gender Stereotypes Are Often the Root

One of the reasons why women 鈥 or people of color for that matter 鈥 often don鈥檛 have a career in the IT industry in mind are gender stereotypes. When people think of the technology industry, they usually associate young White males with developer roles. These stereotypes often originate in the experiences and ideologies we encountered in our childhood and school years. And many of them are here to stay. The fact that the IT industry is much more diverse, both in terms of the workforce and the roles that exist within it, is often overlooked or not explored further. In Rodrigues’ case, it took an opportunity to turn her life around.

鈥淚 received an opportunity that would send me on a completely different path: ,鈥 the 疯拍传媒 mentor explains. 鈥淚 asked myself, 鈥楽hould I quit my job in accounting and do something different altogether?鈥 It was a hard decision.鈥

Rodrigues was brave enough to do it. 鈥淚 decided to take the leap, but the transition into tech wasn鈥檛 easy. Back then, the industry was still very much dominated by men. I was the only woman, and I was judged because of that. I was told I talk too much, have a different style, and maybe wasn鈥檛 even suited to be in this area. But I was confident that this was the place for me. I wanted to be a woman in tech.鈥

She worked hard to show that she was competent and had the skills to succeed. 鈥淚t is my belief that knowledge is power and the key to success. You must study and you have to take action to change your life,鈥 she adds. 鈥淚 am glad that there are opportunities to upskill.鈥

Rodrigues was and still is curious. She set out to learn something new and built a successful work life as a woman in tech. She has navigated an industry that is still very much dominated by men and has fought against gender stereotypes with discipline and trust in her abilities. She never settles for less and that makes her a role model for many women worldwide. Her advice is loud and clear: 鈥淚t鈥檚 never too late to learn something new. I can only encourage you to learn and to go for the next challenge. Strive for something higher, and you will grow 鈥 professionally but, most importantly, personally.鈥

With the right information, the operator can make sure that the equipment and the processes are running optimally, reducing machine downtime, rework, and scrap. This is the purpose of , which brings business and operational data together for informed company-wide decisions while delivering process enforcement, complete traceability, and a record of the product genealogy.鈥

analysts predicted that in response to the reality of digital disruption, 60% of businesses will embrace a decision-making model that combines the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and human judgment for more informed decision-making by next year. Connected data between the shop floor and other parts of the business, including sales, supply chain, and finance, also has company-wide implications in meeting customer commitments.

Wellstar Health Improves the Employee Experience through Innovative LMS Governance /2022/11/wellstar-health-employee-experience-lms-governance/ Wed, 23 Nov 2022 11:15:52 +0000 /?p=200682 Imagine that you鈥檝e just been hired into a new job, but due to training you can鈥檛 really start your actual duties for a week and a half. Now add to this the fact that you鈥檙e a healthcare worker whose expertise is very much in need. This was the scenario at Wellstar Health System prior to the start of its learning management system (LMS) governance initiative.

As a customer of multiple , Wellstar is familiar with the power of 疯拍传媒 and knew it could be getting more out of its 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Learning solution. Danielle Mecum, manager of Learning Technology at Wellstar, believed that improved governance of the system was part of the road to getting there. 鈥淲hen governance is lacking, the employee experience suffers,鈥 Mecum explained.

With a nursing background, she knew firsthand the need to get new hires trained properly and quickly, and that reducing the time from hire to actual work was key. She added, 鈥淚n addition to our non-clinical employees, our medical employees were taking longer to get to the patient floors to start providing care because of how the required onboarding training was organized and set up. There were inaccurate training assignments, courses not marked as required, and, in some cases, no required-by dates.鈥

In addition, users said that their learning assignments were too cluttered and disorganized, Mecum explained. And there were instances where new employees would get to a patient floor and realize that they were not able to enter a patient鈥檚 chart, for example, because a course hadn鈥檛 been assigned to them in the correct sequence.

The need to get employees onboarded faster could have been enough to justify the governance project, but to add to the complex nature of the project 鈥 and completely out of Wellstar鈥檚 control 鈥 the organization faced the impending deprecation of Flash content and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. To help tackle this challenge, Wellstar decided to work with its customer engagement executive to start a solution adoption engagement. This type of engagement is intended to provide recommendations to a customer to help them create an action plan to optimize their use of their system 鈥 in this case . A recommendation came out of this engagement that confirmed the needed for the governance initiative.

Mecum鈥檚 nursing background helped her understand the urgency of the situation. She and her team looked at the issues already discussed and began to build a governance model. For example, they instituted a content life cycle management process that incorporated a formal method for requesting the creation of new items, curricula, and assignment profiles. In addition, they implemented an ongoing review procedure that included automated notifications to course owners to review material that had reached expiration. Additionally, Wellstar leveraged and configured custom fields within 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Learning to track key data and report on it from within the system to ensure compliance with the new governance process.

Other governance steps included reviewing and consolidating LMS admin roles to ensure the right administrators had the right permissions to perform administrative tasks as appropriate in the system 鈥 without giving them freedom to add to the problem at large. A formal process for vetting new LMS administrators was created to ensure they weren鈥檛 simply giving just anyone these permissions. 鈥淲e knew we needed to define what goes into the system, so we could control what comes out. This helps when we need to get rid of old, outdated courses,鈥 Mecum explained.

These changes, among others, were implemented as part of the governance initiative. The result is that Wellstar is now reaping greater benefits from 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Learning and, most importantly, employees now have an improved experience with the system. Frustration levels are down and new hires are able to start their actual jobs much sooner than before 鈥 in three days rather than a week and a half!

The Lasting Impact of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 Early College High School Program /2022/11/impact-of-sap-early-college-high-school-program/ Fri, 18 Nov 2022 12:15:18 +0000 /?p=201149 Access to higher education is an invaluable gift 鈥 and one that is becoming increasingly important. From 2010 to 2019, the number of people in the U.S. with a bachelor鈥檚 degree has steadily increased 鈥 in the last decade alone.

Yet, a pressing question remains: are people being left behind? that the rate of bachelor鈥檚 degree attainment among the U.S. White non-Hispanic population to be 42%. Meanwhile, for the Black and Hispanic population, this is at 28% and 20.6%. More specifically, looking at among science and engineering shows that Hispanic and Black rates are at 15% and 8.5% compared to 58% for the White non-Hispanic population.

The Pathways

疯拍传媒 not only acknowledged this gap a decade ago but took action, establishing the Early College High School program in 2013. Since its inception, this program has supported over 2,000 students from under-resourced and historically marginalized communities across North America. The goal of the program is to empower public schools to curate distinct educational programs centered around inclusion in STEM, postsecondary readiness, and workforce skill development.

What鈥檚 more, the program鈥檚 flexibility meets schools and educators where they are at. Currently implemented in four schools within the U.S. and Canada, the program is seen within a wide range of STEM and technical skills pathways, from Skyline High School in Oakland, California, which focuses on the arts and visual media, to the hands-on STEM incubator for students at Templeton High School in Vancouver, British Columbia. Specificity and customizability are some of the unique aspects of this larger umbrella of programs.

We鈥檝e shared stories of the program鈥檚 impact on individuals, but are these one-off examples or are these programs truly impactful for the students? To find out, we worked with , a nonprofit focused on building equity through education and research, engaging current students, educators, and community members. Together, we set out to foster reconnection and survey alumni from the participating high schools.

The survey, , was completed by 128 program alumni, accounting for approximately one-fifth of the graduating cohorts that the early college high schools decided to survey. It examined topics relating to alumni demographics, educational attainment, high school experiences and impact, and career intentions. Instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all program or survey, 疯拍传媒 and Digital Promise consistently worked to meet the varied and changing needs of the partnering schools.

While it鈥檚 important to keep in mind that not all alumni responded to the survey, the results were incredibly promising and exceeded our expectations. Of the alumni who responded to the survey, 85% completed or are pursuing post-secondary degrees and 63% are in STEM-related degree programs. This contrasts starkly with the U.S. national average, where only had received post-secondary education and just pursue STEM-related degrees.

This reveals significantly higher numbers of STEM majors within the program and an increased likelihood that students would pursue STEM and technical careers after graduation. Impressively, program alumni report expected careers in fields such as IT, engineering, computer science, healthcare, arts and design, and business and financial operations.

The Impact

In the survey, alumni highlighted the benefits of the program in preparing them for college and giving them access to early college credits, especially in STEM. One alumnus from Charlestown High School in Charlestown, Massachusetts, recounted that the program 鈥済ave me a taste of what college courses would be like if I took them, and it challenged me intellectually.鈥 Likewise, at Business Technology Early College High School (or BTECH) in Queens, New York, alumni highlighted the benefits of the program preparing them for college, giving them access to college credits, communication skills, guides, mentors, and belonging. One former BTECH student explained that 鈥淭aking college classes early in high school has helped me bypass several classes in my bachelor’s degree program. The program鈥hallenged me a lot and helped me improve my writing and communication skills. I loved this early college program and wouldn’t choose anything else if I had to go back again.鈥

These programs gave many students unprecedented access to sophisticated STEM educational pathways and opportunities for experiential learning in science and technology. At Templeton Secondary School, the program serves as an incubator for early STEM and tech talent by giving students hands-on experience with science experiments, lab work, and creative problem-solving. One Templeton alumni highlighted the sophistication of Templeton鈥檚 STEM preparedness programs, stating, 鈥淸In college] I am often the only one that has used tools and machines and worked in a self-taught environment, and it鈥檚 helped me get into design teams, do well in project courses, and get jobs.鈥

Similarly, students at Skyline High School echoed the aforementioned benefits of college credits, career exposure, and even coding. In addition to providing pathways to STEM and professional development, Skyline鈥檚 program focuses on preparing students for careers in film and media. Alumni from this unique program spoke to the value of training in multimedia, professional software, and project management experience, explaining that 鈥淲orking on a professional film set opened my eyes to the possibilities for my future career.鈥

The Future

As we work towards a more equitable society, connecting students and early talent with opportunity is essential. Our results reveal a wide range of diverse benefits from our Early College High School program. 疯拍传媒 hopes to continue working with Digital Promise to build out an alumni database for the program, expand survey offerings, and help other programs reconnect with their alumni. As our workforce continues to evolve, there is an ever-growing need to create inclusive educational pathways for all students to develop future skills, and gain access to a higher education. It is incumbent upon all of us to make sure all students are empowered and supported as they decide their path to the future.
