The Challenges of Data Siloed in Three Systems

Weber says one of the reasons she joined Convista in 2012 while studying business at university was the high priority its leaders place on trust and transparency, values that permeate the entire organization and empower employees in their work and career development. 鈥淭rust is one of our main values,鈥 she underscores. 鈥淎lso, the trust that people are willing to do their best to get motivated and move the company ahead.鈥

Convista grew quickly both organically and as a result of mergers with other consultancies. To build a strong foundation for future growth, Convista embarked on 鈥淧roject ONE鈥 with the goal to have one digital platform flexible and powerful enough for the entire organization. Among the key advantages is the ability for employees to access their own HR-related information, such as personal details and time-off balances. This self-service capability helps empower employees, improve transparency, and enhance the overall employee experience.

Convista鈥檚 project team decided for a phased approach to the implementation by first introducing the 疯拍传媒 solutions in Poland and later in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland 鈥 with 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition planned to launch in the German-speaking countries during the course of 2024. To optimize success, the project team used the combined best practices of Convista and 疯拍传媒 and hosted regular meetings that provided clear communication to steer the project. 鈥淲e were always aligned on the requirements of the other teams,鈥 says Weber, who managed the HR workstream. 鈥淲e all knew the main goal of the implementation. This was helpful for everyone on the project.鈥

In-house experts from Convista certified on 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors solutions contributed valuable knowledge for the implementation. Consultants from 疯拍传媒 Services and Support successfully integrated the cost center replication from 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud to 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors and the workforce replication from 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors to 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud, and delivered a detailed administration guide on the integration setup for Convista. Additionally, they provided an overview, the architecture guidance, and the navigation through major hurdles in performing the configuration to set up identity access governence (IAG), identity provisioning service (IPS), and identity authentication services (IAS). The 疯拍传媒 Early Adopter Care program supported Convista for the master data integration (MDI) during the implementation and helped to solve all roadblocks efficiently.

On January 1, 2023, Convista鈥檚 80-person team in Poland was the first to go live with the new 疯拍传媒 solutions. 鈥淚t was really a great experience for them and quite an advancement,鈥 says Weber, citing the benefits of the new solutions that provide optimizations and intuitive workflows. The project took a pivotal turn on January 1, 2024, with the launch of 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors solutions for Convista鈥檚 800 employees in the German-speaking countries.

鈥淭he biggest milestone was to have [疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Employee Central] speaking with each other,鈥 says Weber, who emphasizes how valuable it is for the team 鈥渢o have an end-to-end process within one platform.鈥 With an integrated IT platform in place, she says that it is no longer necessary to do workflows, authorizations, or any other processes in other systems.

The seamless synchronization of data by using a common data model for 疯拍传媒 business applications helps reduce the need for manual data entry and redundant processes. This means, for example, employee data that is maintained in 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Employee Central is available in real-time in 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition; while master data, like cost center data, flows seamlessly from 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition to 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Employee Central. Eliminating data silos enables the HR and finance teams to work with consistent, accurate data for all-important employment decisions and legal reporting obligations.

Now Convista鈥檚 team is unified in its brand, values, spirit 鈥 and employee data. 

More Transparency and Intuitive Workflows Are Just the Beginning

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, according to Weber, with employees speaking favorably about the improved transparency and workflows. 鈥淭he first thing I heard from everyone was, well, this is simple and intuitive. They were so happy about it,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hey are big fans of the mobile application. They find it very transparent and easy to use.鈥

For some colleagues, the new solution lets them view their own data for the first time. 鈥淲hen we went live, everyone was viewing their profile,鈥 says Weber. 鈥淭his was also quite new that you are able to see what data is maintained for your person, your address, but also job information 鈥 to view it and have this transparency. People like this very much and also the ability to have the self-services in 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors.鈥

To strengthen communication between HR and employees, Convista will bring more people processes onto the new digital platform. In fact, the team very recently implemented the 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors Performance & Goals solution for annual employee appraisals, goal setting, and project feedback. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just the beginning,鈥 Weber says. 鈥湴粘蟊鸢疴檚 still a lot of work ahead of us.鈥

Hinz says, 鈥淲e have been careful to preserve our workplace culture during the transformation. Now that we are rebranded as one organization, we are seeing the benefits of that early effort. Digital Eco-Farming: How 疯拍传媒 Japan Helps Revitalize Rural Communities /2024/02/minano-digital-eco-farm-sap-japan-revitalize-rural-communities/ Wed, 21 Feb 2024 12:15:00 +0000 /?p=222786 With rural population in decline, many communities in the Japanese countryside struggle to continue farming and harvesting their land. and in Japan launched a co-innovation project to help the town of Minano revitalize its community.

Like other industrial nations, Japan has been facing massive demographic challenges in its agriculture sector. An aging population and a lack of younger individuals entering the sector to replace them have led to farms being abandoned and fields lying fallow.

Japan鈥檚 government has realized the demographical issue, of course, as it touches not only the agricultural sector. To revitalize rural areas and stem the rural exodus, the government launched a national action plan.

In alignment with this action plan, 疯拍传媒 Japan has joined the effort of encouraging rural communities to thrive by launching a co-innovation project with PSI, an 疯拍传媒 partner, and the local government of the town of Minano.

Digitizing the Agricultural Sector

The small town of Minano is located in the hills of Saitama Prefecture, about two hours from Tokyo. While the south of this prefecture is largely a suburb of the Tokyo area, the west, approaching Mt. Fuji, is still very rural and thinly populated. A former center of silk industry, the region on average is sunny and warm but can get lots of snow in winter.

鈥淔arms in this area are traditionally small and dispersed, located between forests and mountains,鈥 says Yoshihisa Horiguchi, chairman of MINNANO Future Create. 鈥淏ig supermarkets and retailers overlook them. Nowadays, the farmers cultivate rice and vegetables in small amounts to consume themselves, sell to their neighbors, or send to their children or grandchildren that live in cities.鈥

Since 1950, Minano has lost roughly one-third of its population, largely due to the decline of the agricultural sector. Today, it counts about 10,000 inhabitants.

鈥淵oung people often migrate to urban areas for better education and employment opportunities,鈥 Horiguchi explains. 鈥淲here 50 years ago, a farm may have relied on 20 young workers, now only two elderly workers are left.鈥

Digitization is one obvious approach that may help prevent those areas from depopulating completely.

鈥淏ut while large-scale farms benefit from the economic feasibility of applying robotics and the like, it is financially and logistically challenging to apply such technologies to small-scale dispersed farms,鈥 Horiguchi says.

Horiguchi, the owner of an automotive parts manufacturing company, co-founded the local initiative MINNANO Future Create in 2019 to solve the challenges resulting from population loss. Its members range from elderly individuals to young residents, forming a diverse group of individuals, including pharmacists, architectural designers, and other professions, all living in the town.

For one of its projects, the Minano Digital Eco Farm, it partnered with 疯拍传媒 Co-Innovation Lab.

IoT Solution for Monitoring Agriculture

The Minano Digital Eco Farm project aims to build a communication platform that connects farmers and urban residents as well as small-scale dispersed farms to major supply chains, forming a portfolio that coexists with existing large-scale farms. In alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project will help overcome supply chain disruptions due to food shortages and crop failures due to abnormal weather, conflicts, disasters, and more.

For this vision to become a reality, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors were distributed in various locations and managed remotely from headquarters.

Tap the power of 疯拍传媒 BTP to integrate and connect landscapes

鈥淭he idea was to have an IoT solution running on 疯拍传媒 Business Technology Platform (疯拍传媒 BTP) that would help monitor all the agricultural processes,鈥 says Atsushi Minakuchi, senior solution specialist at 疯拍传媒 Co-Innovation Lab in Japan.

疯拍传媒 Co-Innovation Lab partnered with PSI, which brought in the Digital Material Controller (DMC), an all-in-one compact edge controlling server that enables easy setup of a ubiquitous IoT environment. And, due to the cooperation with 疯拍传媒 Co-Innovation Lab, the DMC has also obtained 疯拍传媒 certification.

鈥淢any IoT sensors lack cybersecurity functions,鈥 Mitsuhiro Yamazaki, senior advisor and former president of PSI, says. 鈥淗owever, by connecting sensors to a DMC with cybersecurity capabilities, it becomes possible to securely store locally collected data on the DMC, safely transmit to 疯拍传媒 BTP, and accumulate, analyze, and utilize data from the DMC. This enables seamless and easy integration between the 疯拍传媒 core system and the IoT system.鈥

鈥淐ollaboration with 疯拍传媒 Co-Innovation Lab has significantly expanded the application possibilities of DMC,鈥 Masaki Fukui, former PSI Cyber Security Lab director and now with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, says. 鈥淕lobal users of 疯拍传媒 now could have the opportunity to easily implement and utilize a ubiquitous supply chain platform through the combination of DMC and 疯拍传媒 BTP.鈥

Through integration with 疯拍传媒 BTP, the deployment locations can then be displayed and monitored on a dashboard.

The idea is for citizens living in the city to enter a service contract with a rural farm or supplier and to connect via a technology platform to remotely monitor and support agricultural processes. In return, they receive part of the crops 鈥 freshly delivered to their homes in the city.

So far, two proofs of concept for farms have been completed between March 2019 and November 2022, as well as one proof of concept for a miso factory. Agriculture and rural industry are only two fields of application. Future projects could include schools, hospitals, stores, and elder care facilities.

Strengthening Rural Appeal for Inland Tourism

As a corporate social responsibility project, the Minano Digital Eco Farm came to life through the voluntary engagement of 疯拍传媒 employees in Japan who supported the project on top of their regular work.

The project is supported by a government program unique for Japan, the so-called hometown tax payment, which makes it possible for citizens to choose and support the region they were born and raised in or a community they wish to engage with.

鈥淭he possibility of hometown tax payment is very popular among Japanese people,鈥 Hidenori Kurosawa, vice governor of Minano, explains. 鈥淭o us in rural regions, it seems that this played a significant role in creating an interest in the countryside. People want to get to know and support local towns.鈥

Indeed, the appeal of small, thinly populated communities surrounded by beautiful forest landscape hasn鈥檛 gone unnoticed by Japanese inland tourists.

Kurosawa says: 鈥淲e wish to make Minano appealing to visitors by offering return gifts that provide an experience 鈥 that allow visitors to come to the town, interact with the locals, and experience things that are unique to this place.鈥

The Minano Digital Eco Farm project aligns well with this strategy. Not only does it promote Minano’s charm but, by expanding initiatives, it addresses local challenges such as reclamation of abandoned farmland, increased self-sufficiency in food, reduction of CO2 emissions, and improved profitability in agriculture.

鈥淲e have great expectations that this initiative will contribute to addressing the town’s challenges and advancing the UN SDGs,鈥 Kurosawa states. 鈥淲e express our sincere gratitude to the volunteers from 疯拍传媒 Japan who provided invaluable assistance in bringing the Minano Digital Eco Farm project to life.鈥

鈥淢INNANO鈥 means 鈥渇or everyone鈥 in Japanese and is pronounced the same way as the name of the town. Fukui from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication explains the idea behind that name: 鈥淥ne action can have multiple meaningful impacts. The issue of unseen small-scale dispersed farms facing economic challenges can be witnessed around the globe. Through its core business as a full-service supermarket retailer, Coles engages with millions of customers every week in its 860 supermarkets throughout Australia. The group鈥檚 other areas of business include its Click & Collect online platform, network of liquor stores, and financial services with nearly 1,000 additional retail outlets.

Guided by the organization鈥檚 clear , Coles鈥 team of 120,000 employees is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of customers and the local communities it serves.

In fiscal year 2020/21, Coles Group hired nearly 30,000 people to deliver on its business needs. Mike Virgo, head of Talent Acquisition for Coles Group, said this hiring volume was necessary to make sure the company was 鈥減ositioned well to support our customers.鈥

The business environment, however, dramatically shifted as the public health crisis of the pandemic unfolded, resulting in repeated lockdowns and restrictions. As a neighborhood retailer dependent on in-person interaction to deliver most of its services, Coles found its workforce impacted by the pandemic. Faced with supply chain disruptions, panic buying behaviors by consumers, high employee absenteeism, and increased turnover, Coles urgently needed to step up its volume and pace of hiring to support its customers.

We wanted to create more consistency and uplift the experiences we were giving our candidates and our hiring managers. And ultimately, [the solution] needed to drive commercial benefit for us.鈥

As a key requirement, the new solution needed to integrate with . The site includes an AI-powered chatbot to guide candidates as they look for information, search relevant job postings, and submit their applications. It also includes Coles鈥 Expression of Interest, always-on advertising that drives the growth of its talent pool and advances its talent marketing by reducing the need to advertise every role. A Hosted Apply process, facilitated by integrations with Phenom, presents a consistent candidate experience and increases the conversion rate on applications.

Phenom AI Scheduling, a key part of Coles鈥 hiring experience, enables candidates to book themselves an available interview slot and automates the coordination of hiring team calendars. The new solution provides a fully mobile-enabled experience to meet the demands of candidates for an omni-channel, real-time experience where they can learn, read, and apply for jobs where and when they want.

Inundated by nearly 1 million applications each year to review, Coles also took steps to elevate the recruiter experience and increase the speed and accuracy of candidate screening and job matching. It implemented Phenom Fit Score, an AI-powered feature that assesses a candidate鈥檚 suitability for an open role, based on location and optimal travel distances, availability, and working rights; then, assigns a fit score and surfaces the most closely matched candidates to the recruiters. In addition, the new solution empowers in-store managers to collaborate with recruiters to review candidates and make quick hiring decisions with confidence.

Talent Pools Grow with Improvements to Hiring Speed and Efficiency

With the new augmented solution, Coles is experiencing tangible benefits across multiple categories and key metrics for success: time-to-fill is down six days; time-to-hire is down two days, which is impressive considering candidates can book the in-store interview up to two weeks in advance; and advertising spend is down 50%.

Most notably for Coles as a people-centric organization is the development of its talent pool, now numbering 2 million potential candidates. It achieves an 85% application conversion rate on up to 1 million applications per year. Through its to be a safe, inclusive, and diverse workplace, Coles has applied the new solution to provide greater accessibility for more diverse candidates, resulting in an increase of 24% more hiring for people who identify as having a disability.

Soon after the new billing systems went live in April 2022, the energy company deemed the implementation with EY such a success that it decided to extend the 疯拍传媒 solution to one of its statewide markets using the RISE with 疯拍传媒 offering, inking a multi-year agreement that can enable the company鈥檚 subsidiaries to ultimately move to 疯拍传媒 S/4HANA as part of an enterprise-wide journey to the cloud. The ability to show the customer the听, a pre-built and industry cloud accelerator with out-of-the-box dashboarding powered by 疯拍传媒 Analytics Cloud, helped cement the deal.

Not only does the deal testify to EY鈥檚 superior work serving that customer, it shows how, through collaboration and innovation, a relatively small project for a GSP can blossom into something much broader and more lucrative. This particular outcome wouldn鈥檛 have been possible without EY and 疯拍传媒 working closely together throughout the multi-phase, two-and-a-half-year process.

Stories like this abound within 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud. Driven by the spirit of co-innovation, 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud has yielded hundreds of solutions that are ready for application in verticals that include discrete manufacturing, consumer industries, energy and natural resources, and financial and professional services.

The comprehensive offerings they have developed under the auspices of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud range from industry cloud innovations, reference architectures, and business process models, to industry templates and implementation accelerators, to data models and preconfigured interfaces.

While many of these GSPs compete head-to-head in certain markets, here in the world of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud they are collaborators and co-innovators aligned around a common goal: providing customers with access to open business-transformation and business intelligence solutions that can enable them to run more efficiently and focus more on higher-value strategic priorities.

Needless to say, Tenthpin鈥檚 decision to actively participate in 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud is paying major dividends for the company and its customers.

疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud is that rare business ecosystem where stakeholder interests can not only converge, but align 鈥 and where the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts in terms of the value it generates for stakeholders. Little did we know in 2020 how ubiquitous the term industry cloud would become across the business landscape, nor how prescient it would be in describing the collaborative, partnership-driven pathway to innovation that 疯拍传媒, our customers, partners, and the entire business technology marketplace are taking.听听

Industry cloud has come a long way in just a few years, both as a concept and as a living, breathing business ecosystem here at 疯拍传媒. In a ,鈥疓artner found that about 40% of enterprises had started adopting industry cloud platforms, with another 15% in pilots and 15% considering deployment by 2026.

The volume of utility-focused apps produced via industry cloud, and the speed at which they鈥檙e being commercialized, underscores several noteworthy trends for 疯拍传媒 partners:

  1. 罢丑别谤别鈥檚 vast white space within the utilities product road map for partners to turn their intellectual property and use cases into solutions that generate new revenue streams and customers.
  2. That white space continues to create huge opportunities for 疯拍传媒 partners to enhance and extend 疯拍传媒 solutions in the utilities sector by developing their own solutions using 疯拍传媒 Business Technology Platform (疯拍传媒 BTP).
  3. Partners are taking advantage of the plentiful resources 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud offers to help support and expedite the commercialization process.

Our product road map for utilities has plenty of it, along with a flexible framework to accommodate partner innovations that lead in exciting and sometimes unexpected new directions. That鈥檚 all by design. We鈥檙e actively encouraging partners to get involved in the co-innovation effort because with the new partner-friendly revenue models we鈥檝e incorporated into industry cloud, there鈥檚 a strong business case for them to do so.

Further strengthening that business case are all the resources 疯拍传媒 is dedicating to support partners in the effort to identify and monetize their use cases for the utilities market. We鈥檙e making it easy for them to access resources and guidance at any point in their industry cloud journey, from onboarding through commercialization, closing deals and completing customer implementations.

To help speed the commercialization process for partners, we鈥檝e developed programs like , where we invite partners to submit use cases, then support chosen use cases with resources and guidance so they can quickly bring them to 疯拍传媒 Store. We鈥檙e currently in the midst of our third utilities-focused round of SPRINT1, the previous two having yielded a variety of new apps from companies like AppOrchid, Utegration, EnergyOS, Infosys, and others.

During my conversations with channel partners, one of the first questions they ask is, 鈥淲ill we be stepping on 疯拍传媒鈥檚 toes if we use 疯拍传媒 BTP to develop applications specifically for midmarket clients?鈥

My response: quite the opposite! Our priority at 疯拍传媒 is to get the right solutions in the hands of customers that aren鈥檛 ideally suited to standard 疯拍传媒 offerings. Nobody understands how to do that better than our channel partners. Who authored the solution is secondary to the main goal of 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud: giving customers what they need to succeed. One channel partner, for example, even though the 疯拍传媒 Digital Manufacturing solution already exists. While both solutions cater to the same functional needs, they target entirely different customer segments. That鈥檚 exactly the kind of innovation we鈥檙e seeking from channel partners.

Another question I hear frequently: 鈥淲e like the idea of monetizing our IP. But what IP do we develop, and how do we commercialize it?鈥

As a channel partner, there鈥檚 a good chance that in crafting solutions for your customers, you鈥檝e developed your own IP that could bring value to other customers, perhaps in new verticals and geographic markets. As part of the collaboration-driven industry cloud mindset, 疯拍传媒 is redoubling efforts to provide partners with resources to help them identify and commercialize their IP.

Another question they often ask me: 鈥淲hat about working with a partner that also happens to be a competitor of ours? How can we trust that collaborating with them won鈥檛 backfire on us?鈥

What鈥檚 more, 疯拍传媒 depends on partners to develop industry cloud solutions. We鈥檙e not interested in building everything in-house or taking ideas from partners, and we鈥檝e put in place contractual language to protect partner IP. The same applies to other partners in the ecosystem. All our interests are aligned around helping the end customer. The result is a win-win-win for them, 疯拍传媒, and our partners.

As new as this approach is, it鈥檚 understandable that channel partners would have questions about how they can benefit from industry cloud. To help put things in perspective for them, I鈥檒l often respond to their questions with one of my own: 鈥淚f you had the chance to turn all the time, effort, and intellectual property you鈥檝e invested in your work with midmarket customers into solutions that generate new revenue streams and market opportunities, without assuming undue business risk, would you take it?鈥

That鈥檚 when the light bulb really turns on and they realize that with 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud they can start writing success stories of their own.

Like so many businesses around the world, Delaware is facing big issues when it comes to recruitment. The shortage of available talent in the market and then having to fight other companies for talent when it鈥檚 available is a drain on Delaware鈥檚 time and resources.

“It鈥檚 unsustainable,” says David Taylor, head of Growth Initiatives at Delaware. “We鈥檙e a smaller business, but we’ve got big targets for growth. We’re aiming to triple our size in the next three to five years. That means we need access to great people. Now the challenge for us is that we don’t have the same resources as bigger companies. We don’t have a big team of people building that pipeline of talent for us.”

“For 疯拍传媒 partners like us to establish a strong pipeline of talent and meet the needs of our clients, we really need to diversify our strategies,” says Kaity Cloke, senior recruitment consultant at Delaware. “We need to be looking at bringing new people into the industry, people who have different, diverse skill sets, who can support the work that we do. The Partner Talent Initiative is really helping us to address those issues.”

Indeed, Taylor goes on to say that some of the best consultants they鈥檝e hired have been people who have worked in a specific industry already, rather than only ever working as a consultant.

“The initiative gives us access to a pool of experienced candidates from a variety of different backgrounds, many of whom have experience of living in the real world,” he adds. “It gives us a different outlook than if we were only hiring people from our graduate scheme, and we aren鈥檛 competing against other companies for these candidates.”

So far, Taylor and Cloke have hired three people, two into the finance team and one onto the 疯拍传媒 SuccessFactors team, namely Caroline McDonald, whose story is featured .

“One of the real values of the Partner Talent Initiative is that we can go to 疯拍传媒 and tell them our pain points, the areas where we need to bring people in, and they shape the initiative to suit us and address those issues. It’s a really collaborative approach,” says Taylor. “It also means that 疯拍传媒 takes on a lot of the hard work of finding talent for us. For us, it鈥檚 a no-brainer to know that we have access to such fantastic talent to support our growth. It’s an opportunity that鈥檚 been too good to pass up.”

One day might bring news of collaboration between companies that historically have been fierce rivals, or a customer implementation of modest scope that grows into a much larger and more lucrative project. Another day could bring reports of a new app or solution that uses an exciting tech wrinkle to fill a need for multiple customers. And another could bring news of an 疯拍传媒 partner breaking into a new market or vertical by developing a solution with applicability across multiple industries, then monetizing it on .

A solution developed by 疯拍传媒 partner DataXstream highlights the possibilities that 疯拍传媒鈥檚 industry cloud offers to partners that serve consumer industries. The solution, , helps streamline order management. The results it鈥檚 producing for customers are impressive: higher margins, lower inventory and training costs, and an improved understanding among wholesalers and retailers of their customers. Using the solution, one customer not only realized ROI within seven days, it saw a 1.5% increase in margin on sales and a 50% reduction in inventory carrying cost during the first year following implementation. That鈥檚 US$7 million added to the bottom line and $50 million in reduced inventory carrying cost.
